If you are having a treatment in our community room please understand other people are being treated in the same room. We respect your privacy and the privacy of others. We will do our best to conduct your intake with the most discretion. Please use a soft voice. Let us if you prefer to do your intake in a more private setting. If you happen to overhear someone else’s private information, please keep it to yourself; you’d want others to do the same for you.
IS ACUPUNCTURE PAINFUL?
The sensation is different for everyone. Many people mention feelings of tingling, dispersing, lifting, heaviness, warmth, pressure, tightness or nothing at all. During a treatment, most people are extremely relaxed and may fall asleep.
ARE ACUPUNCTURE NEEDLES STERILE?
Yes, we are required by law to use pre-sterilized, single-use acupuncture needles that are properly disposed of after each use.
WILL I BLEED?
Acupuncture generally does not cause bleeding. If a person is prone to bruising easily, it can occur. Blood capillaries are everywhere, sometimes hard to avoid if not readily seen at the surface of the skin - and this may cause a tiny spot of blood to emerge. These are mild reactions and no cause for concern.
HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
The number of treatments vary for every person. Each individual is unique, therefore a treatment plan will be tailored to meet your unique needs and wellness goals. Some people experience immediate and significant relief while others may notice only subtle changes after a longer time. Generally, acute problems respond quicker than chronic conditions. Results will depend on severity and duration of the condition, constitution, lifestyle and diet. Please give acupuncture a chance to work. We generally suggest at least 4 to 6 treatments to see if you will respond. You may come more frequently in the beginning and as you progress, come less often as you transition into a maintenance plan. If you feel you aren’t progressing as you’d expect, please discuss this with us.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
If you are having a treatment in the community room, we generally use points on your arms, legs and head. Therefore, comfortable, loose fitting clothing is ideal. For private acupuncture treatments that require disrobing, we always drape for your comfort.
Please turn off cell phones and devices before entering the treatment rooms. We would like to keep a quiet space for everyone to be able to relax.
PLEASE BE PREPARED:
Please do not come to your appointment while extremely hungry or after having large doses of caffeine as both may affect your session and bring about undesired reactions during treatment. If you haven’t eaten before coming, let us know.
